Server RP Policy

Posted by inbredfreak on May 27th, 2012

Introduction
The following is currently ‘Work in Progress’ and will be edited to reflect changes as roleplay is more established within InHaven Games server.

Breaking an RP Rule in itself will not get you banned or kicked, however where non-compliance of RP policy breaks server ban policies, players will be dealt with in accordance to the aforementioned policy.

Summary
The following is a quick summary of the rules at a glance, this should not be used as an alternative to reading the rules in full but a general point of reference that the rules are trying to cover to ensure quality of experience on the RP World:

1. Play along with the story; don’t hijack it or take it on some wild tangent that disrupts the main storyline.
2. Do things legit as much as possible.
3. Try to stay in character as much as possible.
4. Remember that you must comply to state policies at all times, RP policies are secondary to State policies which are in themselves secondary to the server ban policy.
5. Listen to the story-drivers Triadian and Malhavock as well as the other server staff.

If you follow these, you should be fine.

RP Commands
The server supports the following commands to aid RP:

./rp dice or ./rp dice <max dice number>
This allows a player to roll a dice (default 100 sided dice) with the option to set the amount of sides the dice will have. On execution the server will generate a random result and display the result in the chat for everyone to see.

./rp coin
More simplified command for simple true/false or yes/no decisions. Again when executed the server will generate a random result and display in the chat for all to see.

00 – RP Rules v1.0
These rules are a working draft and will be amended when necessary to ensure quality of the RP experience on the InHaven Games Servers. It is your responsibility as a player entering the SF servers to ensure you have read and understood the latest RP rules before engaging in RP activities.
Amendments will be listed at end of the main policies along with a date stamp of implementation. (Policy Change Log)
Anyone caught breaking a policy after it’s release will be dealt with in accordance to the RP policy and if required and applicable the server ban policy.
If you find that you have implemented something on within RP prior to the rule being established, contact a member of server staff immediately who can then be used as witness in the event of a policy dispute.

01 – Role Play (RP)
All players entering RP must be considerate to other players around them who may not be in RP. If a situation arises that RP conflicts with normal play for other players please contact a member of server staff who will provide clarification on how to proceed. This may mean either party being asked to move to a different location to continue RP or normal play.

RP will be played on two levels:

02 – Personal Game Plan:
On a personal level you will have your own game plan that encompasses your character and engages with the RP server story on a low level. For example your character my arrive, settle, work, develop friendship and alliances that will enrich the experience of all players on the RP server.
You may not develop a game plan that conflicts with the server RP story which includes world domination, creating character profiles that break RP rules (clerics who can fly, healers who replenish health etc) or build unsanctioned builds etc.

03 – Server Game Plan:
The server RP storyline was built for a bigger game plan and engages with RP on a high level, the game plan will continually be kept secret to allow the plot to develop slowly and enrich the RP experience for everyone on the server.

04 – DM:
All Admin RP actions can not be questioned, from time to time their actions may seem extreme, if you believe it may be vindictive in nature (unlikely) then please direct your grievance to the following DM’s for resolution on whether the grievance was part of the Server Game Plan or not.

DM’s:
Triadian
Malhavock

05 – Player Modes
Whilst in RP you can be in two different modes:

06 – IC – In Character
IC is when a players is in character, unless when they are doing something that can not be done whilst in character or communicating with another player outside of their RP role.

07 – OOC – Out Of Character
Players are out of character when talking to other players during chats not related to your RP role, this should be kept to a minimum to ensure quality of game play for other players who are also in RP. Please use the /msg command where possible to communicate out of character during RP sessions to prevent chat confusion to other server players.

08 – Back Story and Profile
Players engaging in RP should have a RP profile uploaded to the forums to allow other RP players to engage with their character appropriately, please visit RP Player Profiles and upload a creative profile.

Players engaging in RP who have no backstory or profile listed online maybe ignored during RP sessions by other RP players due to lack of profile information.

09 – Flymod is banned, no excuses..

10 – Teleporting whilst not banned it should be used sparingly and whilst in OOC mode only.

Transportation around the world is via foot only (see teleporting above*).

11 – By Foot:
You may venture anywhere on the world by foot.

12 – By Aircraft:
(Currently no aircraft mod installed)

13 – Aircrafts:
(Currently no aircraft mod installed)

14 – Chat
To minimise confusion and to ensure quality for both normal players and RP Players the following chat syntax should be used during RP.

15 – In Character Chat: (IC)
Used to talk in character role to other player in character role, Remember to honour vocal distance, you can only chat to people you can actually see in game.

<> Message

Example:
<> Hello, My name is PlayerB. How are you today!

16 – In Character Chat with Moods/Actions
Used to shorthand a mood at the same time as in character chat.

<> Message (mood)

Example
<> Hello PlayerB (grins), can’t stop i’m in a rush (rushes off)

17 – Out of Character Chat (OOC)
Used to chat to players when not role playing.

Example:
Hey, can a admin tp to me and remove this locked sign :-)

18 – Radio:

[] Message

Example:
[] Permission to land

19 – Mood/Action
Used to indicate mood, intention, action or thought without speech

Example
() picks up sword

NOTE: Please do not use the /me command for role play.

20 – Sample of how to use the above chat syntax:

PlayerA: () looks over to PlayerB, wonders if they wants to go mining
PlayerA: <> want to go mining?

PlayerB: () bah, I wish people will leave me alone!
PlayerB: <> No!

PlayerA: () thinks PlayerB is rude, walks to PlayerC
PlayerA <> Do you want to go mining?

PlayerC <> sure, i’ll just call for a JDAF pilot to take us somewhere. (picks up radio)
PlayerC [] Can a JDAF pilot take us North from <VillageName> to go mining?

JDAF [] On My Way

21 – Chat Note:
Remember you can only chat IC to another IC player who you can see in-game. So do not be surprised if a player ignores you if they can not see you.
If you believe an IC chat directed at you is not within acceptable in-game distance, use the () action command to denote so.

Example:
PlayerA () feels a chill down my spine.. wonders if someone somewhere is talking about them

Radio chatter can be heard by all who wish to listen. Players may choose to ignore Radio chatter as if the radio was turned off.

22 – Building
All building is subject to state policy for the state you wish to build in.

23 – Battles/Fights
The SF server has PvP enabled, this means you can take damage from punches and weapons.
To inflict damage to a fellow player you must engage in the follow combat rules, failing to do so will be considered as malicious intention.
General outline is as follows, state intent, allow for opponent to engage or retreat, engage in battle, the player who dies in battle loses the battle (note: Dying in a Player to Player battle does not kill your character but indicates losing the battle only)

24 – Player to Player Rules:
1 – Player must not attack without amble warning to allow opponent sufficient time to retreat if they do not wish to engage in conflict. use () action command to state battle intent i.e.

() is preparing for battle against PlayerB

Opponent must respond intention before engaging in battle

() I’ll teach PlayerA the meaning of pain

or

() Has a feeling PlayerA is spoiling for a fight.. I’m getting outta here.

this would give the opponent time to surrender, prepare or ‘RUN!’

2 – All attacks should be Hit for Hit basis, ie if you hit someone, they have the right to retaliation if still alive.

Note:
It is against server rules to PvP attack another player over a non RP dispute, if you have reason for complaint against another player for their actions, ask a member of server staff to settle the matter in accordance to server rules.

3 – Once a player loses (dies) from engaged in battle (whether inflicted by action or a fall etc) the battle is over, the loser must admit defeat and declare intentions to retreat. i.e.

PlayerA: () retreats to Jericho to regain strength

4 – Inflicting damage to a person immediately after losing a battle without restating new battle intent will be considered breaking player to player combat rules. (When your done… YOUR DONE!)

5 – Attacking outside of RP OOC mode and inflicting damage to a player will be considered as unacceptable/malicious behaviour.

6 – Players may engage in battle with anything they have to hand to protect themselves.. So pick battles wisely.

7 – Prior to battle you may grant a ‘Gentleman’s Battle’ in which case opponents should be granted sufficient time to store their inventory in a chest before battle commences.

8 – When the loser dies, the winner of the battle may claim any inventory items dropped.

25 – Server Staff RP Rules
In the event you are witness to a server staff RP battle please be aware that these battles are in accordance to the Server Game Play and may not conform to the rules outlined in the Player To Player Rules.

26 – Inflicting Accidental Injury
If you inflict injury to another player apologise immediately and offer to pay compensation, which should be mutually agreed between both parties involved. In the event compensation can not be mutually agreed between both parties the issue should be presented to a member of server staff who will give final judgement.

27 – RP Maintenance:
Server staff will be active to maintain the rules outlined above, as such they may from time to time make world edits to builds that do not adhere to the server level game plan.
If you currently already have something that conflicts with the above rules please notify a member of server staff immediately where the build will either be sanctioned or removed on merit of whether the build conflicts or not with the RP Server Game Play.
If you have mined your own resources you ‘MAY’ be entitled to compensation from the Admin at their own discretion.

28 – Policy Change Log:
v1.0 – 27th May 2012
Initial Release edited form old server RP rules.
